With FF Corse teams racing simultaneously at Silverstone & Hockenheim over the weekend, it was amazing to record and mirror a 100% record of pole positions and race wins at both race meetings.
In Hockenheim, Sam Smeeth recorded his 5th & 6th race wins of the season, which were enough to secure the Championship for him in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli AM Class, with 4 rounds still remaining. The result was even more incredible, given this was the first time Sam has visited the Hockenheim race circuit and he only saw it for the first time in the practice session on the Friday morning.
The final rounds of The 2016 Ferrari Challenge take place at Jerez (Sep 8th & 9th) & Daytona-World Finals (Dec 2nd – 4th).
Ferrari have released a short promotional video from the weekend. It can be viewed at the following link:
Mirroring the victories at Hockenheim were Mike & Anthony Wilds, who were competing together in the GT Cup Championship at Silverstone, in the DSM sponsored Ferrari 458 Challenge car. The pair each achieved one race win apiece in the Saturday sprint races, before cementing their individual victories with a combined win in the Pit-stop race on Sunday.
The next round of the GT Cup will take place at Snetterton next month on September 8th & 9th.
The Britcar Championship held a non-Championship allcomers race at Snetterton the previous weekend (Sept 3rd) and FF Corse entered two cars with the driver pairings of David Mason/Calum Lockie (Ferrari 458 GT3) and Bon Grimes/Johnny Mowlem (Ferrari 458 Challenge) both taking class wins. The Bon Grimes/Johnny Mowlem car finished second overall in the 90 Mins endurance race and narrowly missed out on victory to a prototype Sports racer, despite a spirited charge which resulted in Bon collecting the “driver of the day” for his drive in the changing dry/wet conditions.
The next round of The Britcar Endurance Championship takes place at Oulton Park on October 1st.
